September 2010 - Tokyo Police Club's Dave Monks Hits the Road With Traynor

Dave Monks

Tokyo Police Club Bassist and Vocalist Dave Monks adopts Traynor YBA200-2 All Tube Bass Head as his go-to amp as the band hits the road in support of their new CD "Champ."

After bursting into the spotlight in 2006 with their Lesson in Crime EP. Tokyo Police Club has been on a grueling schedule. Relentless touring, including appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman and The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, while writing and recording two additional EP's and a full-length CD before the end of 2008.

Now 2010 brings the release of their second full length CD, Champ, and has the band back on the road again, this time with bassist / vocalist Dave Monks carrying a Traynor YBA200-2 Bass Head in tow.

"I think we have had a shift towards the reliable as opposed to the sweet or kitschy," explains Dave. "I had a long history of old non-SVT Ampegs and then a Traynor Custom Special. The fine people at Traynor sent me one of their newer heads to try out and, as skeptical as I was of this modern contraption, it hasn't broken on me." Reliability is key when a band is as busy as Tokyo Police Club.

"It sounds the same every night! It's amazing! It doesn't have to be louder than the whole drum kit to sound good either. I really like to get some gain out of my amps for bass but you don't want to drown everyone out when you are in a smaller club."
